Running Routes
Roadrunner Routes
Good running routes have flat footing, minimize unprotected intersections with vehicles, are easy to remember, and work well with large groups. Roadrunner routes start at Sertoma Park and use the well-known streets, trails, and hills of Provo to give variation and enrich the specific type of workout (e.g. threshold run, strength run, speed workout, long run, recovery run).
Warmup Loop and Start
Roadrunners meet at Sertoma Park for a Warmup 1/2 Mile Loop (Red Dashed Line) and dynamic stretching.Â
Route Legend
Routes are loops or out-and-back. The name of the route is listed with the total distance in miles. The out-and-back runs are variable length, depending on the capability of the athlete. For many group runs, the team "snowballs" back where slower runners join the group that is doubling back on the route.
South Provo Routes
South Provo routes are flat with relatively few hills. The routes inspire Roadrunners as they run by BYU athletic facilities and often see cross-country and track athletes hard at work. There are 3 track facilities within 1/2 mile of each other with BYU Outdoor Track, BYU Indoor Track, and the Old Provo High Track.
North Provo Routes
North Provo routes are variable in length from Neighborhood run (1 mi) to River run (6.5 mi). Routes to the East are hilly as runners ascend towards the Bonneville Shoreline. One of the favorite North Provo routes is Lover's Lane. It is a 1.5 mi soft surface nature trail that has shade, fairy gardens, and an unpaved surface. Development plans are underway to extend Lover's Lane along the Timpanogos Canal Trail.
Provo Map
There are 20 running routes in addition to the warmup loop around Sertoma Park.

Thanks to Jacqelyn Lewis for creating the Provo Route Map. She is a Roadrunner coach, mom to talented runners, and Civil Engineering professional. She tracks Roadrunner miles for Waddles for Julia and the JDRF Foundation to support research for Type-1 Diabetes (T1D) children. Roadrunners regularly log more than 24,901 mi (circumference of the earth) each year!
